Discovery visits

What’s more, you can tailor your visit to whatever the curriculum requires of your learning group, whether it be science, design & technology, local history or significant people.

HMS Victory Audio Guides

Create a great experience for your students with our audio guides. Transport your students right into the thick of the action and enable them to gain valuable information at the same time. With all of the sights and sounds from the ship, they will be sure to remember this experience and put their learning into action when they return to the classroom.

These are available for collection on entry to HMS Victory.

Loan Boxes

Discover our range of loan boxes and enhance your educational experience. Each of our boxes is aligned with our attractions, including The Mary Rose, and contains resources and replica artefacts to support a vibrant learning environment.

All our loan boxes are available to collect from the museum and cost £30 for two weeks.

Discover More!

We have a few activity stations, known as Chests and Back Packs, which feature different resources that are made to facilitate discussions, investigations, reflection and creativity for active learners.

Pupils will gain a hands-on learning experience within our gallery spaces, including the Nelson Gallery, HMS Gallery and Victory Gallery, which will draw links to the curriculum across multiple key stages.

Teacher Trail

Unlock information about each individual attraction, as well as maps to guide you throughout your educational visit. This resource is free for teachers to use!

We’ve also highlighted the must-see attractions so that you can get the most out of your visit.

Discovery Challenge Packs

These challenge packs are designed to be an educational resource for your pupils. The challenges and games within these packs help to guide their learning, encouraging them to explore and be more inquisitive about their visit.

Our challenge packs can be tailored to suit students of different ages and abilities. Pick and mix the challenges that support your pupils best!

Special Educational Needs and Accessibility

Whilst the nature of these precious pieces of history means that they’re not necessarily designed with accessibility in mind, we’ve strived to make our facilities as accessible as possible.

Our older ships, including the HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and HMS M.33, can be trickier to access. However, we’ve made sure that most of our attractions have wheelchair access, with lifts and disabled toilets. Additionally, we provide touch tours and audio descriptive tours that can support your visit for those who need it.

Contact us before your visit about your needs, and we’ll try our best to facilitate them.

Additional information

We have an indoor area available for groups with packed lunches in Boathouse 7, for which bookings are required as numbers are limited.

Our maximum number of students for a Discovery Visit is 120. 35 students is the maximum number for a Discover More visit.

We recommend that visits to each attraction should take anywhere between 60 and 90 minutes for you to make the most of your trip and absorb as much information as possible. However, we also have more customisable options if you’re choosing a Discover More package, where you can tailor the length of the visit to suit your specific requirements.

We also strongly advise that education providers conduct a preliminary visit in order to familiarise themselves with the site, as well as complete a risk assessment.
