A Life of Service

Purpose-built for combat during the First World War, HMS M.33 was sent straight to Gallipoli upon her launch. After four years of fierce fighting, she was transformed into a variety of support vessels over the decades.

Now, as part of her new life as a museum, the interior of M.33 houses an immersive film and exhibition dedicated to the Gallipoli Campaign. Explore the ship’s cabins, lovingly restored to their original state, and experience life aboard this historic vessel. With expert guides on hand, uncover the untold stories of the men who served on the little-known ‘Eastern Front.’

The Lucky Ship

HMS M.33 earned a reputation as the “lucky ship.” Despite the heavy losses suffered during the Dardanelles campaign, it miraculously escaped enemy fire; a truly rare feat.

The ship’s luck continued long after the war, surviving while almost all other ships of its era were lost or destroyed. Today, it is one of only three British ships from the First World War still in existence, and its enduring presence is a testament to the incredible resilience of this warship.
